My direction in making is led by an innate enthusiasm and curiosity towards the understanding of materials. What material quality and capabilities are revealed when propositioned by the interference of mark making? It is the action of process and event of making which determines my practice, equating to my work not being subject to conscious manipulation, but representative of the haptic sensations which occur in the act of making. To capture this, the act of pouring and working into cement, paired with the welding of metal collaborators, has allowed me to monumentalise the moment of making within a material which traps/ holds the remanence of process. As neither painting nor sculpture, I like to think of my works as navigating a straddled definition of material ‘being’ and artworks.
