The ordinary, the everyday, repetition and routine. I am interested in the unnoticed, the everyday things in our day to day lives that simply get overlooked even though they have an integral role in our daily functioning.
Throughout my practice I use the technique of deconstruction and reconstruction. The process of simplification, breaking a functioning structure down to its basic elements and components, focusing on individual parts instead of the whole structure. Then reconstructing the parts into a new formation, the arrangements do not necessarily make sense or function but by combining the individual parts together creates a new form.
Screen printing is one of the main techniques I use in my practice. The technique of printing relates very closely to the way that I work with my subject matter. The process of printing is very methodical and repetitive, having to pay very close attention to detail.
Architectural structures are used consistently throughout my work, concentrating on the façade of the house, specifically suburban houses in South East London where I grew up. With the images that I work with I break them down to a simplified form, focusing specifically on the windows, which act as the bridging gap between the inside and the outside.
