My artistic practise predominantly consists of figurative oil paintings and monoprints which capture groups of people in conversation or social interaction. My artwork takes a modern approach to the conversation piece, exploring the ways in which lockdown has affected our social interactions. My paintings are completed in oil paint with linseed oil on stretched canvas. I paint working from my own photographic archive, often selecting images with a voyeuristic quality.
My series of monoprints were based on a collection of photographs which captured two or more people in the midst of some sort of social interaction. In creating this series, I experimented with manipulating the placement of stencils, using different types of paper and adding different amounts of ink to my plate with each print. Furthermore, I played around with adding different amounts Lincoln Wash to my plate, as well as using a smaller roller to add detailed shapes to my prints. My series of monoprints explore how conversations can be manipulated to reform narratives and disguise an original interaction.
