In my work, figures meet animality part-way through an exploration of gender. Traces of previous drawings re-appear and become distorted in etchings and oil paintings but remain recognisable as elements of world building in a third space. Through references to classic mythology, the body, literature, ritualism and animalistic elements of womanhood, my drawings and paintings reflect a repressed expression of femininity and use motifs and overlapping marks to create a disruption and a transformation to the body. I create performative, instinctive marks through scratching, scraping and wiping paint; then fuse these with my drawings using oil sticks and ink, partially informed by gestural movement.
